By mounting STARPHONIC's innovative hardware on a 1mm thick steel shell, we are able to offer our top-of-the-line snare drum sound at an affordable price. At the cost of an intermediate model, the PST146 provides a warm, solid sound and great sensitivity.
FEATURES
We will now introduce in detail the many unique mechanisms incorporated into this vehicle.

RSE (Resonant Sound Edge)
RSE (Resonant Sound Edge) is TAMA's original edge, a modern adaptation of the double-flanged edge used in vintage snare drums from the 1920s. It
retains the tight, solid sound of a metal shell while achieving a mellow, full-bodied resonance that is almost like that of a wood shell.

Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare
To achieve a light and crisp sound, we completely re-examined everything from the coil material and pitch to the shape of the coil plate, creating a brand new snare wire. By improving its responsiveness to the snare head and achieving both exquisite grip and a crisp resonance, it delivers the delicate touch and rich expressiveness to capture even the most subtle passages of the player's voice.

Non-Loosening Rubber Gasket (US.PAT.NO. 7825318)
A mechanism to prevent the tension bolt from loosening during playing. A rubber stopper block is built into the claw hook, surrounding the tension bolt.
When the tension bolt is tightened, the hook is pressed against the hoop, and the built-in rubber stopper is squeezed between the hook and the hoop and contracts. This restoring force secures the tension bolt and prevents it from loosening.

Ratchet Style Snappy Tension Adjuster
To prevent snare tension from loosening during performance, the strainer's adjustment knob employs a ratchet-type adjustment mechanism with a gear-like internal structure. Because it won't loosen unless it crosses a step, it boasts extremely high tension retention. Furthermore, the snare's vertical adjustment range can be adjusted in very fine increments of 0.125mm for each gear, allowing for even more precise tension adjustments.

Detachable Butt Plate
TAMA's original mechanism allows the snare cord to be removed from the shell while maintaining tension by unscrewing the two bolts on the strainer butt. Furthermore, the snare window in the hoop has been opened, making head replacement even easier.

"Linear-Drive" Strainer (US.PAT.NO. 8017846)
This strainer successfully minimizes the contact noise caused by the snare wires hitting the bottom head, even when the lever is moved quickly. It employs a structure that ensures the snare wires are securely in contact with the head without putting unnecessary strain on the shell or strainer.

Freedom Lug & Claw Hook (US.PAT.NO.7825318)
An original mechanism that releases the hook from the hoop when the tension bolt is loosened. This allows for easier and quicker drumhead replacement without having to completely remove the tension bolt from the lug.

Grooved Hoop (US.PAT.NO.7825318)
Despite its 1.5mm thickness, the elimination of tension bolt holes allows for high rigidity and perfect roundness while maintaining the open sound characteristic of flanged hoops. Furthermore, the inward-curved edge shape appropriately controls overtones, resulting in a tighter sound.
